About the CIRS
The Chemical Inventory Reporting System (CIRS) is an online, master inventory of all chemicals that are being stored on the Athens campus of the University of Georgia. The Chemical and Laboratory Safety Committee requires persons responsible for locations where chemicals are being stored and/or delivered to access this online inventory and update the history of these chemicals. This online inventory system provides accountability of hazardous chemicals for the use of Enviromental Safety Division in meeting federal reporting requirements.
Only chemicals that are hazardous (rating two or more on the zero to four scale), are required to be reported on your chemical inventory. DNA, IGG, vitamins, protein, agar, and items of this sort, unless otherwise indicated on the container are examples of such items that would not be reported
Chemical postings began in May 1996 as chemicals were ordered from or through Central Research Stores. It is the responsibility of persons in these locations to update their inventories as chemicals are being consumed, disposed or wasted or as they may be aquiring chemicals through other means.
Please contact Christopher J Smith at Central Research Stores (542-5299) for any questions or comments.
